About
The Eight Essential Realities form the basis of a meaningful and integrated scientific world view. This world view is promoted by the Life Science Initiative. The Life Science Initiative is an association of persons who wish to promote a way of life that takes advantage of recent developments in science and technology. By recent, we mean the last couple of hundred years. We identify the first book presenting cell theory in 1831, as the beginning of the most important advance in human history. The Genomic Revolution, marked by the mapping of human genome in 2000 CE, sets the stage for the fulfillment of immortality strivings, which drive cultural development. Advances in medicine, including Anti-ageing Drugs, genetic engineering, therapeutic cloning, and nanotechnology will free human beings from the inevitability of degeneration, disease, and death, which has terrorized previous generations. However, the cultural systems dominant today are founded upon the knowledge of thousands of years ago. As such, they can only with difficulty incorporate the modern advances so crucial to life today. Often their ethical prohibitions conflict with the obvious solutions to today's health problems, such as genetic diseases, which may require cloning or experimentation with human embryonic cells. In other cases, the moral codes advocated, such as the prohibition of condoms, promote the spread of life-threating infectious diseases. The restrictions of the past are, in many cases, totally irrelevant in the modern world. By focusing on the truly important factors for human health and well being, such as avoidance of infectious and genetic diseases, life can be, not only safer, but also more joyous. It is the objective of the Life Science Initiative to organize a fellowship, which can serve as the foundation for a new cultural framework capable of effectively utilizing the recent scientific developments so important to human survival and happiness. We take a broadly existential view, but the association is open to anyone who agrees to follow our rules.
